It's that special time of year when it's all I can do to not shove Easter candy in my mouth hand over fist in a continuous, round the clock kind of way. But not all Easter candy. I have standards. Jelly beans and those foil eggs do nothing for me. Cadbury and Reese's eggs? Meh. Skittles are strictly bush league, and while Peeps are cute as the devil, at least I realize that they are probably fashioned out of some type of nuclear waste and/or petroleum, and therefore do not tempt me in the least. However, throw some Butter Krak eggs in the mix and now you're talking...
Today, while Tween Thing was working up a sweat doing Twister Dance moves and the DRMC was tearing out his hair whilst wading through our taxes, Kiddie Winkie and I went to our LYS and picked up something that she has been begging for since she first set eyes on it last August: Amaizing by SWTC. Now, we all know kids love a good gimmick (how else can you explain the current Webkinz insanity?), and so the idea of knitting with something other than wool was instantly appealing. She cast on for a headband in the store and told me that from now on, she's only ever knitting with corn! I must say that it is very sturdy and actually great for a tiny knitter type as it doesn't split in the least. I urge you to check it out.
Lest you think that I am somehow impervious to the whole gimmick thing, I managed to walk away some SWTC Bamboo. (Yeah, I'm not even pretending to be on a yarn diet anymore.) I would love to hear input from those of you that have used it and would also appreciate any pattern suggestions you might have...

if i had read this post yesterday, i would have thought: "ewww, knitting with corn?!?"
but today? today i went to the LYS and touched some yarn made of corn. now, i didn't buy it (in a moment of i-don't-need-more-random-yarn self-awareness), but that's a gimick i could totally fall for.
I've touched one skein (different brand, don't remember the name...) of corn... and I couldn't believe how soft it was!
I have some SWTC yarns on the way in the mail and am looking forward to trying them out.
Can't wait to see what you come up with to make with your Bamboo.
Happy knitting,
ali
You may be the only person who will understand my Smarties addiction. I think I've consumed 3 bags in the last few weeks by eating them one after another all day long.
I'm intrigued by the whole idea of knitting with corn.
OK, I thought I was still young and, well "with it" (which, in typing it, I realize means that I'm totally not) but I had to look up Webkinz on google 'cause I had no idea what they are... and I'm not really sure I do even now...
Corn yarn? What will they think of next? The colors are yummy, though, as are the Jolly Ranchers sour jelly beans that fill my mouth. I'm with you on the hand-over-fist action.
I love the name of the yarn! *snicker* Which LYS did you find it at? I've seen raw corn fiber.
I fall for Gardner's PB eggs, everytime. Gawd they're good!
I have never heard of Butter Krak--I must do some investigation. I on the other hand am completely addicted to mini eggs. Can't stop eating them. I think Cadbury withholding them from me for most of the year gives me this scarcity mentality where I feel the need to over-indulge.
Hoo boy, I know the Webkinz, because I have a 6 year old niece-in-law. I admit that the online part was kind of addictive, although the dolls are kinda ugly in person, I think.
She's really on the cutting edge, I've been curious about corn yarn too!
I haven't used bamboo yet, but I've been searching different brands to knit the Sahara top from Stitch Diva. I've heard it's a nice alternative to the very expensive silk recommended.
Your yarn diet went the same way as mine huh? It's like in real life, if I actually say the word diet aloud, I'll put on another ten pounds but if I quietly start walking more, drinking lots of water and watching what I put in my mouth… speaking of which, I've never heard of those butter krak eggs but they sound darn tasty!! My personal addiction has always been Purdy's foil covered chocolate eggs. Only Purdy's everything else is a pale, waxy imitation. Have fun with the corn and bamboo yarn.
Hmmm, I had never heard of Krak Eggs before. They sound yummy. :) Thanks for the yarn reviews. I'll have to check those out.
I've never even heard of Krak Eggs!!
Thanks for the review of the corn yarn. I've been wondering how it knits up.
Gorgeous bamboo!
Yarn What? I don't understand. OH, and I've been dying to feel the corn yarn. I haven't seen it at my LYS yet...
What in the world are Butter Krak eggs?!?! My interest here is getting the better of me; must find one to try! I am not an Easter celebrator, but I'm an Easter candy eater for sure! My favorites are the malted milk speckled robin's eggs. YUM.
I've never even heard of Butter Krak!! I'll have to keep my eye out.
They have us knitting with bamboo, crab shells, seaweed, and now corn...I honestly can't wait to see what they come up with next!
Well... knitting with corn is definitely something new for me - I had a totally amaized look at the "Amaizing" - link that you shared and mind you, I'll *so* have to try this out too! I can well imagine how much your girlie enjoyed it - such new gimmicks just have to be tried out! ;)
And my, the Bamboo that you got looks so yummy too - I bet it must be more than great to work with - looking forward to seeing how it knits up!
She's so cute! It's great that you've got her knitting.
I got some Phildar bamboo that I want to use for a tank top from a recent Phildar mag. I also think I might swatch some for Wendy Bernard's Sahara to see if I get gauge.
Happy belated Easter to you. I don't even want to think of food right now. Seems I ate way too much at Easter.
I have never used this Bamboo yarn before but I have heard folks love it!
Ooooooh fun! I haven't knit with many of these *new fangled* yarns yet so I'm not much help. Can't wait to see what you come up with though!

Is the Butter Krak as addictive as crack? I love that your daughter knits and craves yarn. That is too cool. It's making my maternal instincts kick up a few notches.
