Seattle: there and back in 48 hours...

Knitting in Seattle...
Seattle is so one of the greatest cities in America. The coffee culture...the misty, temperate climate...the gorgeous architecture...the stunning natural beauty...the prevalence of très cool urban hipsters...so much to love. My work trip was short and sweet but did afford me the opportunity to visit the city and do two of my favorite things: have Thai food (twice!) and spend the afternoon knitting in a café. Above you see the Chevron, which I have come to realize that you can knit and knit and knit on and still have miles to go before you sleep. But in its' defense it is highly portable!

Not wanting to fall behind on my Malabrigo treadmill, I was able to complete the Stella's hat during my trip. The hat is incredibly warm and the pattern is soon to be
chez A.D.D. a gift staple. 'Geranio' is a great color as it edges toward being overly pink but somehow rescues itself and manages to be a great color. Next up for me is Mabel's Scarf in Bergamota...

Stella's Hat
My lil bro had a birthday recently, and you can read about a funny incident that happened at the party on RuPaul's blog here. Yes my blog is competing with a bona fide celebrity blog to win the attention of my brother. How can I compete with a 6'5'' drag queen? I can't.
The building that inspired the knitter to create the hat that inspired a knitting nation...
Above you see the Seattle Public Library. Is it ringing a knitting bell for you? Yes, it's the Koolhaas structure that inspired our pal Jared so much. Perhaps now the library should be part of a United States Knitting Tour! Can you think of other notable knitting sites that might be worthy of a stop on this tourist jaunt for knitters?

Stella's hat looks quite eye popping in Geranio!
Oh, your poor brother :( He can't have his cake and eat it too, but he can party with a star!

The hat and scarf are just terrific colors! Very nice to bring one out of the gray winter doldrums.

Your query makes me want to know my knitting history better! New England is of course littered with farms and the Green Mountain Spinnery is a fantastic stop... I can't wait to see the ideas others come up with.

I truly think the Chevron Scarf is the black hole of knitting. Granted, I haven't touched it in a while, but when I was working on it, it felt like I'd been knitting forever and I'm still only halfway through the first skeins of yarn.

Love the hat! It is very pink.

Cute hat! Love the color!

Hmmm, will have to keep that in mind when I get around to the Chevron Scarf. Make sure I have plenty of other WIPs to distract me from the black hole.

That was a hilarious story, but I still think that in my small knitting world, you rock even more! The Stella hat is awesome. Hmm... I just got some Malabrigo worsted... Seattle looks like a fabulous city to visit. Any McDreamy sitings?

It's only a matter of time before I give in to all the Malabrigo pressure building up in my head. Too much goodness popping up around the blogs!

I guess an ok knitter's trip would be to come to Oslo, to see the place downtown where Rem Koolhaas' city library hasn't been built. He won the architectural contest a few years ago, but the politicians are suffering from unending indecision.
There's always some good yarn to be had when you get tired of the parking lot that was supposed to be the new library.

I love that color - I have a full set of a Mod Cables Hat, Mittens, and a Cabled scarf all in that bright pink. And your description is spot on- almost too pink but somehow not. Love it.

As for knitting sites... hmmm... I can think of lots of architecture that would be fun to go see but none that has inspired knitwear!

That sounds like a fantastic trip! Of course you realize that I'm going to have to knit the hat. It's a natural law.

I adore that hat. My poor poor Ravelry queue . . .

Your brother hangs with RuPaul? The mind boggles.

Love Stella's hat - just queued it! The colorway is awesome. I have that Mabel Pattern just looking at me now - signing like a siren "knit me...knit me..."

What a cool picture of the Koolhaas inspiration - it is like a Knitter's Monument! a Knitter Mecca!

Like ashley, my mind is boggled by the RuPaul connection...I love how you have this as a minor hyperlink aside in your post about malabrigo! You have obviously developed that blase attitude about celebrity attained only by *actual* celebrities (or siblings thereof). I lay down my addis in awe. And btw, have you ever knit anything for RuPaul?

i love the hat - AND Rupaul!

your stella came out great! i have a hank of malabrigo in that color that's just begging to be another hat.
wow, the seattle public library is amazing, no wonder it inspired the most popular hat pattern ever!

I love that hat! Stella and Koolhaas. There's been a lot of talk in the library world about SPL. Perhaps not quite as inspiring to librarians as it is to knitters. ;o)

What? You didn't bring your Koolhaas hat(s) to see the place of their birth?

Sounds like you had a nice trip.

Now stop torturing me with all that delicious malabrigo, will ya?

As usual, I love your stuff. As a matter of fact, you're excellence is starting to creep me out. Can you make a big mistake and give us something to work with?

A couple of posts back, you had mentioned Fantine. I have the yarn and pattern for this -- please tell me that longer sleeves will make this better?

I love your hat -- I love anything so cheery pink!

So, is your brother a porn star? Did he recently have a brazilian? Did he model nude for Cosmo? I'm very confused.
