A Verb for Spending Money and Being Self-Involved

Reading all of the post-Maryland Sheep and Wool blog entries in knitblogland has brought to the fore in a very glaring way (at least to me) the shallowness of this here attendee. While others used verbs such as "meet", "encounter", "experience" as they detailed the fabulous time they had hooking up with friends new and old, admiring the animals, and appreciating the mountain music practitioners, my verbs were all related to consumption and acquisition: "buy", "obtain", "purchase", "score" and "eat". I am a bad person. But I am still riding high on my new yarn, and have it in a special bag that I take out at night for talismanic fondling and whiffing.

I did put my new yarn away long enough to make another cowl. Now you know I am all about LB, and any pattern that she comes out with, I am just automatically on board. (Kind of like those bands you loved when people still bought albums, and you waited patiently for their album to come out on that magical Tuesday and you scooped it up immediately). So when Miss Thing posted Grassy on Stitch Marker, I was all over it, enough so that I bought my pal Kim a copy, in a passive-aggressive attempt to shame her into doing it, too.

Grassy
Pattern: Grassy by Larissa Brown
Yarn: Crystal Palace Merino Print 5 in #108, one skein exactly
Needles: Size 6 16'' circs
Mods: Seriously? Why?

I just love this cowl, it might be favorite one yet. I love the fanning out of the lace pattern. I could well imagine this cowl in many, many different yarns and think this might be at the head of the class in terms of last minute knitted gifts (you hear that chevron?). Let's all remember this majestic cowl sometime next fall when we are scrambling for holiday gifts. I have one more cowl up my sleeve, and then I might be taking a break: the Gloria cowl in my A Verb For Keeping Warm new silk/alpaca blend...

It's gorgeous! The colors are so pretty, and, well, I think you know I love the pattern. You didn't really need to twist my arm. The Berroco Nuance is bought and waiting to be knit up. I may even take a break from other projects to whip it up this weekend. Thank you again!

Such a beautiful cowl! That yarn looks gorgeous. MS&W sounds like so much fun, both for the shopping AND the "experience."

Oooh, great color!

Now, spill what you got at MDS&W! I am living vicariously through everyone else's stash acquisitions.

Not only is this cowl very pretty, but, by its very design, it will never curl! (The same cannot be said of the LMKG chevron scarf).

Very pretty cowl!

The cowl is just *lovely*, and I highly recommend a nice display bowl for keeping the current favorite yarn in easy petting/smelling distance.

My festival experience is all about the consumption too. Awesome cowl. It is the best last minute knitted gift (or instant gratifiction project for yourself). Keep on cowling!

Lovely! I've been hooked on the 'Tudora' cowl recently, but I think I'll have to give this one a try, as well.

Nothing wrong with being honest. If I went, my objectives would totally be to snag yarn and stuff my face!

very pretty... love the colour! Nothing wrong with a little conspicuous consumption ;-D. You had a good time, that's what counts!

It's ALL about the yarn baby. Sure, it's great to meet up with people, pet the goats, blah, blah, blah. But really, we're all greedy little fiber hogs, looking for our next fix.

Gorgeous cowl. I might have to jump on the bandwagon soon.

What a pretty cowl!

Don't feel bad... just because I have a fetish for photographing sheep doesn't mean I'm any less shallow (oooo, look at the cute little sheep... so many different types... I'll take a picture of this one, and this one, and this one...) : ) And I did a very poor job of meeting people (other than those I came with... ack! shyness.

re- your comment on my alternate knit night location. The Panera suggestion was all well and good until someone reminded me that there could be(gasp) CHILDREN there. I suggested we go to a bar. not so popular. damn.
