When this pattern came out in the summer Knitty I couldn't have been less interested. However a combination of the chill in the October air and reading other people's blogs has given me a serious attack of the lemmings and so I just had to try Fetching. The directions state that you can get the yarn after work on Friday and by Monday morning have a nifty pair of hand warmers for your Monday commute. I did indeed get the yarn after work on Friday (ok, out of my stash, but still!) and these little beauties are ready to go for tomorrow's commute! I used some Classic Elite Lush #4415 that I got on remainder last spring at Purl and that I'd completely forgotten about. I really enjoyed this pattern a lot, although the thumb was slightly tricky. I somehow need to figure out how to do this better on the next pair. On the left hand I stupidly did a knit cast on:
You'll notice that it's curling at the bottom, hopefully blocking will take care of that. I did the recommended cable cast on (which happens to be my favorite cast on anyway) on the right hand and you can see what a nice edge it gives. 
Live and learn to read the directions more closely is the take home message... I love this pattern and can't wait to try it in the recommended Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran yarn.

They look great! Just what's needed for this darn cold weather. Following directions? Yeah, I think I've learned that lesson too, over and over. :)
I don't know you, but I came across your site through the Academics Knit ring :) You did a beautiful job with Fetching! I have been drooling over that pattern since the issue came out but wanted to try an easier cable pattern first. Thanks for posting the tip about the cast-on. I wish I'd known that for my Irish Hiking Scarf :( LOL.

Hi, I'm a lemming too. After seeing these on your blog, I want to knit them too!!! I need to get some more Cashmerino soon!!! (I had three balls, but used them for my Sugar-Free Walk-A-Thon socks.)
I may have finally found a use for that alpaca I got a couple years ago. I wasn't that interested in them when I saw them on knitty, but yours look very cool. Err, warm.
They look great! So, I've printed out the pattern and will head to my LYS tomorrow, Friday, and see if I can have it ready by Monday. These are a great gift to give to someone. It's quick and easy. Thanks!
I don't think I've ever used a cable cast on. Well, I've only done cables twice, on hats that I gave away. I've been wanting to making myself some wrist warmers for use on my computer. My landlady hardly ever turns the heat on when I'm working at my desk. :( So maybe wrist warmers will work!
