I was going to entitle this post 'Sucktoberfest', but that would just be so me to go for the cheap, crass laughs, wouldn't it? Instead I'll treat you to a run-down of my sock knitting assembly line that is about as productive as a French national utility on strike. I am doing the best I can to roll with the punches, but this whole 'job thing' seems to be a great impediment to my sock production.
Socktoberfest--Where we're at:
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I frogged that Twisted Flower/Fleece Artist hot buttered mess back to the ribbing and am engaged in a très low cognitive load pair of orange stockinette socks. See, all better now, no nausea inducing pattern insanity:
And I must say that I am very pleased indeed with how my little stalwart pal Louet Gems is doing its best to cooperate with Cookie A.'s pattern. Louet has not let me down yet, people! This sock now has a fighting chance at not completely sucking and thereby starting off some sort of blogging cold war between myself and my pal, who deserves a good sock. Have a look:
My Wollmeise RPMs are inexplicably taking forever. I have the impression of having been knitting these for far too long, as I distinctly remember beginning them at Tween Thing's junior high school orientation. Since then she has managed to 'go with and break up with' seven boys, one of them because he called her friend 'a slut'. Way to go with the sister solidarity! I was very proud, especially since most girls will sell you down the river for a boy, but I digress...Yes, these socks are making me feel old and pre-menopausal, but I love the yarn and the pattern is a hoot:
By the end of the week I will have one more sock on the needles since I am taking an Argyle sock knitting class at Stitches East. Woot woot! Please look at the Cascade 220 below and tell me which yarn should be the main color, which two should be the diamond colors, and which one should be that accent line-thing out of those pictured:
Check me out if you're going. I'll be the imbalanced person with sweaty palms trying to meet Kaffe Fassett and gluttonously grabbing as much Tess yarn as I can fit on my Amex card.

main color- blue diamonds yellow-pink(?) line thingy-brown.
Thats what I think.
The socks are coming out great - the twisted flower rocks - I so want to do this pattern, it scares me. And the stockinette - great choice. Argyle I am thinking just blue and brown but a little pink might be nice too - have fun!
I'm looking forward to seeing the Argyle sock. I liek the deeper blue for the main color. Have fun at Stitches East!
Ooooh argyle socks! Pink and brown is all over the place right now so I say main color brown, pink diamonds and blue lines. (either blue)
The Twisted Flower, she's beautiful! I am so envious of the Woollmeise. By the time I got to the new online shop, they were completely sold out. I have GOT to get my hands on some of that stuff.
Re: Argyles, I see brown with two shades of blue argyles, yellow accent - no red.
Oh, ugh, junior high. Glad to see the girls are sticking together for now.
Sucktoberfest, I think not! All those socks look lovely, especially the RPMs. I've got no opinion on the argyles because I am hopelessly colored challenged. I'd make Kaffe weep.
Beautiful socks! Love the orange. I'd use the brown as the main color, with the two blues for the diamonds.
Yeah, I'm thinking brown with blue diamonds and yellow lines. But I'm a brown and blue gal, and you seem to go for pinks...so maybe a pink line instead? Oh I don't know. Nice save on the orange socks - sometimes vanilla is okay :)
And Tess yarn, yum. If you must overindulge, that's the way to go.
So many socks! I'm way jealous! My October is less of a Socktober Fest and more of a "Get gifts done for Christmas and baby showers"-Fest. Here I am envious of your sock time...
Heehee -- French national utilites. It's funny cuz it's true.
Re: Argyle, My first thought, and what I would most likely end up doing, is brown as the MC, yellow and the darker blue for the diamonds, and the lighter blue for the accent.
HOWEVER, I can't help thinking that a light blue base with dark blue and brown diamonds and a red accent would also be quite fetching.
Yea! pretty socks all around!
THink of me when you are in the Tess booth at Stitches - I won't be there this year!
Sock not sucky! All are looking awesome. I've been meaning to try the RPM pattern. I vote for blue as the main color. Pink & burgundy/brown as the diamond colors and light blue as the line.
I've got those Twisted Flower socks back in my queue. Can't wait to see how yours turn out!
Hmmm, for the argyle, I'm thinking brown main color, blue diamonds, and alternate both the yellow and pink as the accent lines. And now I've got that Lucky Charms jingle stuck in my head.
I'm another one who wants brown as a main color with blue diamonds and pink lines... can't wait to see them going - I've always wanted to knit argyles but never quite got around to it. You knit them flat and then seam them, right?
And how awesome is it that your daughter already knows when to kick a loser to the curb! Seriously it took me YEARS to learn the whole "Bros before Ho's" rule of never selling your friends out...
I am so impressed by your sock prowess! I've yet to venture into sockland myself, though whenever I see someone knitting them on the train I get very yearnful. Might need to do something about it this fall/winter.
Main color = brown
Diamonds = light and medium blue
Accent = pink, but yellow would be okay, too
I love argyle.
The RPM are perfect! I need to cast on...
Oh, much, much better! Very nice.
Pretty socks! For the argyle socks, I say that the darker blue should be the main color with the lighter blue and the yellow for the diamonds and the maroon/brownish color for the lines. There. I've put my two cents in. I hope you are having a beautiful day.
Those colors are right up my alley! So pretty!
I too feel like I have been knitting RPM FOR-EV-ER. I hope it gets done this side of a new minellium. WRT argyll socks... mid-blue for main colour, red and brown for diamonds, and silver for accents. It will rock. No really. I very nearly promise...
Is it lame to say I am a fan of the tone on tone blues?
Yes, work does tend to get in the way of life on a consistent basis.
I agree, this work thing is a constant problem. Love both of your socks. No suckage whatsoever.
Hi! So excited about TOMORROW!! I agree with Fancy Pants...dark blue base with light blue and yellow for the diamonds and brown for the stripes. Can't wait to show you my crazy colors! Very 80s...very preppy!
I'd go for brown socks with shades of blue argyle and the red or the yellow as an accent color - only 4 colors though. But then again, this is the exact kinda thing I have trouble with. I max myself out at 2 colors.
Love how well your RPM's are looking!
Ummm, TESSSSSS Yarn!! Wooohoo. Have a blast in your class and grab that Tess yarn fast:)
I love the first sock picture - that is a great yarn! No idea on the argyle sock selection. Totally agree on the Tess yarn - leave some for me, sister! I won't be there til Saturday!
With three to four pairs of socks on the needles, you have confirmed in my mind that you truly are the ADD Knitter!!!! They all look great! As for the color selection for the argyle socks, I'm too dysfunctional to make up my mind!
Great save on the orange socks! And thanks for the laughs. :) Yay to your daughter also. A girl can never have enough friends.
I vote for
main: med blue
diamonds: light blue and brown
diagonals: yellow
I'm a big fan of the off-center argyle. Let me expound: Most argyle is dark or light for the main color and 2 light or dark colors for the diamonds. If your medium color is your main color, the pattern reads more asymetrical. My favorite argyle socks do this. I'm just saying
That's the perfect yarn for the Cookie pattern. Your socks look great!
I'm SO BAD with color that I don't dare make any recommendations .. but ... main color brown with the diamonds in blue and yellow as the accent.
Go, Tween Thing!
Loving your twisted flowers, too.
Have fun at stitches!! I vote for dark blue as the main, brown and light blue diamonds, with red diagonals.
