For anyone that was wondering what would happen to me while those kiddie winkies were half a world away and the D.R.M.C. was in Durham, N.C. at the lab doing his proton routine, well, that mystery has been solved. Clearly when left to my own devices I cannot be trusted to keep the knitting within the boundaries of reason. No sooner had he turned the key in the ignition than I transformed our sweet little home into something entirely other: a Den of Knitting Iniquity.
Behold the dining room table:

People, none of these are even sanctioned craft areas. That's what the entire third floor is for! In the few short days that I have been alone my house has become a topographical representation of a twisted mind that thinks only of its one pleasure: Knitting. Yes Dark Master, I serve thee.
Of course part of being in maniacal knitting mode comes the inability to focus on one project at a time (hence the title of this blog). Foreseeing the potential problem that hours and hours of unstructured knitting could present, I have set forth a rigid schedule for myself as I know the importance of discipline:
The A.D.D. Knitter Schedule for July, 2007:
6:30-8:30am: Embossed Leaves socks. SUCH an amazingly fun pattern and the Fleece Artist merino sock yarn is maddeningly gorgeous. I need to limit my time with this project as if I had my druthers I'd only ever work on this, and that would be very undisciplined.
8:30-9:45am: Coffee, newspaper, shower (on an as needed basis).
9:45-noon: Canal du Midi socks, my Tour de France kal project. This is some high cognitive load knitting, so I must approach it during the late morning when I am in a state of peak mental alertness. I am very glad that I have until July 29th to finish these...I am doing these in Mountain Colors Bearfoot and am wishing that I would've opted for some Louet Gems, just something with a little more stitch definition. But I am only in the beginning stages of this project, so I will refrain from judgment.
noon-1:30pm: Lunch, errands, bloglines.
1:30-3:30pm: I do actual work for my day job!
3:30-5:00pm: Free knitting project time. This unscheduled time is an open period when I am free to work on an unspecified knitting project that might require extra attention.
5:00-6:00pm: Cocktail of choice (yes I drink alone, do you have a problem with that?) on front porch, savory snacks like Doodads™ or Triscuits™. Greet neighbors and people who are coming home from their strenuous work days.
6:00pm: Dinner. Alone.
6:15-8:00pm: Unspecified Internet time.
8:00-11:00pm: Work on Kauni sweater while I watch movie of my own choosing. When the DRMC is away, I am free to watch vapid Jennifer Aniston movies, y'all, and no one can criticize me for being hoodwinked by the culture industry. While the girls are away I am not required to watch anything with Corbin Bleu--even though he is a major doll with that impossibly adorable hair.
11:00pm: Lights out! I have a busy day ahead of me...
So there you have my strenuous drill. Lather, rinse, repeat!

What? No mention of your trip to Barnes and Noble. Love the socks!
Wow. Where to begin? I love the embossed leave sock color/yarn choice. Luv it! Your knitting bag - way cute. I'm somewhat envious that you have an entire third floor dedicated to crafting. But I don't begrudge you; rather, I am in awe.
Move over and make some room b/c I'm coming to join you! Too many kids in my house.
I love your schedule idea! Maybe I should do one of these while I have some time off...
I see no problem... you're living the perfect life!
Love the WIP pics. I think an international Flash-Your-WIP Day would be very encouraging to all of us!
I admire that you have set a schedule. I am off this week, and my big plans for around-the-house projects have gone to hell in a handbasket due to lack of discipline. I did buy limes today, so perhaps cocktail hour will make an appearance tomorrow. (I've got to start with this schedule stuff somewhere.) Mojitos, anyone?
I want to come over for cocktail hour! That sounds like my kind of day. :)
So disciplined....so organized....I love it! I want to come over and knit!
I envy you. so. much. Your day sounds perfect. Have fun! :-)
The best summer camp schedule ever! 'll print it and stick it on my fridge. Will skip the 1:30-3:30 section for, say, spinning or yarn shopping. (Hey, there's always room for improvement ;-)
Uhh, that's what my house always looks like. Maybe I need to follow the A.D.D. plan to getting things done!
Oh and if you're looking for a chick-flick you'd never in a million years want to admit to watching, try "Prime" with Uma Thurman and Meryl Streep. The story is quite far-fetched, but Uma's got some super cute outfits (including some killer sweaters I'd kill to have the pattern for), the love interest is also super-cute, and it's set in what I call "Dream NYC", you know, the city where everyone has an incredibly creative job, a huge, cockroach-free apartment, and can afford to eat in amazing sushi restaurants every night. In Dream NYC, Purl is always just around the corner.
This is a hysterical post! This is the schedule we should all have--work reduced to two hours a day and knitting the rest of the time. The Embossed Leaves socks are on my to-do list. They're so beautiful.
Okay, now I'm jealous...
(but I'm glad to know my house isn't the only one that gets overrun by yarn when I'm home alone.)
What a great schedule... I'm totally jealous. And I see you're fond of rainbow-colored yarn :) The Kauni yarn is just too cool, and the Regia Fun Nation is a fave of mine!
I love the Den of Knitting Iniquity! I want to come over and knit on a schedule too. Oh such fun!!!!
You are too funny! I'm not teaching at all this summer, just working on my diss, but with the kids at camp all day and the house to myself, well...let's just say there are days when two hours of work is pushing it :) I do have a houseful by suppertime to keep me connected to reality though, sigh. I highly recommend the "Bring It On" trio for your B-movie watching pleasure.
Dude. Sounds like the perfect day to me! When can I come over? ;)
Love it! Sounds like my days!
oooo!!! Love the yarn for Monkey socks!! *umm... greeny/bluish/yellowy yarn in first pic is turning into Monkey socks right? Least I think that's the pattern, though I could be wrong*
Is that a Jordana Page bag?? *So jealous now! Lovin the oceany blue yarn next to the bag, and the one behind it, magenta and brown??
"sanctioned craft area" ??? Third floor?? JEALOUS!! *but I still love reading your blog*
Home alone and your getting up at 6:30AM?!?!
and Yes, I do drink alone too on occasion *nightly is an occasion right?*
Enjoy the time alone!
You're making me want to pack up my knitting and come hang out at your house!
You *are* going to act like you're happy to see them when they get home aren't you?
Your schedule sounds perfect. I am a little jealous!
Is it a sign of age that I have no idea who Corbin Bleu is?
Glad of all your uninterrupted knitting time. Looks like fun. Love the fleece artist yarn. All your projects are looking really good.
Man, you live the life the rest of us rubes only dream about. And you need to think of your house is now the temple you worship in, like a monk or something. And if I controlled the dvd viewing- sci-fi all day-everyday. Yah Bay-bee!
Ow ow ow! I love your schedule. I want a schedule like that!
So glad you inserted time in your schedule for cocktails. It's truly important for pure relaxation followed by a frogging event. Did you schedule any frogging time?
tee hee I shower on an as needed basis too. Shhhh. I'm also very glad to hear that you're sticking to your summer knitting goals of drinking cocktails every day.
Holy hell, you really branched out! As long as you're not knitting any weenie warmers, I think you're safe. The embossed leaves sock is killer -- it's like it was made for that Fleece Artist moss. Have fun! xo
WOMAN!!!!!!!! I need to take a nap. You exhaust (and inspire) me. *zzzzz*
Wow, that's a lot of projects! What fun to be working on so much, everywhere. If I tried that, my cats would have a very very happy field day! ;-)
I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who showers on an as needed basis. Sounds like a perfect day to me, except for those couple hours of work. Your Kauni sweater is going to be gorgeous!
I love it! I think it's a great idea, except for the getting up at 6:30 part... as for the drinking alone, who here can honestly say they haven't sat down with a glass of good (or whatever was in the cupboard) wine and a good knitting pattern?! I know I have.
I can't decide if I'm jealous of how much time you have for interrupted knitting or that you have a third floor in your home.
I guess both. You are the master.
i am so glad i am not alone; don't worry, i have at least that many projects going... and, crap, i live alone so my knitting frequently takes over the whole damn apartment!
I LOVE YOUR DAY!!!!!!!!
I WANT TO BE YOU!!!!
sounds good to me too! Maybe I should try a schedule...
NAH! Chaos is my middle name (and you thought it was snarky, didn't you? Fess up!)
Blessings!
It sounds heavenly! ::happysigh::
Yes indeedy. You are addicted to knitting. Hands down. ;)
Jessica
LMAO @ shower as needed! That's hilarious!!!
Hey, a girl's gotta do what she's gotta do. At least your hubby can be glad it's only yarn that you're having an affair with, LOL!
your embossed leaves socks are lovely! I love the color choice.
I'm giggling over your schedule!
Insane with jealousy here.
I'm moving in! Your day sounds heavenly to me!!
Glad you aren't allowing needless showering to eat into your day. I love your schedule. And cocktail hour is especially important when you're alone. On the front porch if at all possible (gives the neighbors something to talk about don't cha know).
look, i consider my entire apartment a sanctioned craft area. why restrict it?
A girl can never have too many socks!
Schedule finger-stretching exercises in there, please.
So jealous of your schedule!!!
And I have serious issues restraining myself to designated craft areas as well... the knitting just sortof starts to take over.
just stumbled on your site. i love the pic of the window sill. the purse over there looks like an old school doctor's bag from that angle! i love it.
