Tidbits

Perhaps if I weren't obliged to be making the largest size of the Green Gable, I would have completed the mind-numbing, endless stockinette of the body. But this is not the case. So, completion of this project eludes me. Damn you Tasty Cakes and your alluring cream center...

In other news, I recently found out that I am going to be a published photographer. Someone spotted my Stitch N Pitch picture from FLIKR and asked if he could use it for an upcoming book on knitting. The book idea sounds fantastic, I'm so excited to see it. You might be familiar with Larissa's excellent blog, she's one of the authors. What I thought was so funny was that my brother had left a snarky, sarcastic comment about the picture when I first posted it, something like "more pictures like this (lame, crappy) one...". So to him I say : in your face, douche bag!

Right now the DRMC and I are trying to plan our summer vacation. This is not an easy task, as one of us subscribes to a philosophy of fiscal responsibility and frugality à la the Depression era, whereas the other one believes that you're only in debt as much as the sum total of your minimum payments on your credit cards, à la 1980s. We are trying to come to an arrangement that we will both be satisfied with, and have recently discovered that we are both keen on visiting Iceland!! Me for the knitting and extreme blondness of the population (growing up a brunette-ssh!-in Minnesota has permanently damaged me) and him for the indie music scene and the possibility of eating fish at every meal. So keep your fingers crossed on that one.

If a Scandinavian idyll isn't in my future, at least I have these two fun things to look forward to:

-The Knitting Gnome swap. Ok, confession time: I love gnomes and if I could have one wish granted, it would be that gnomes were real. I convinced my kids for the first 6 years of their childhood that they were in fact real. We spent a lot of time in parks looking for them. In any case, we'll be hosting a gnome for one week this summer and I am excited. I can't want to embarrass my junior high tween thing with this one!

-The Superfluous Sock Yarn Swap. This swap requires participants to sign up via the Swap Bot. Have I ever mentioned how strongly attracted I am to anything with 'bot in the title? This was a no-brainer, plus Laura from Indieknits is such a complete doll. C'mon do it, you know you want to!

So are you Depression-era frugal or 1980s credit card debt? I'm Depression-era frugal, unless it's knitting stuff and then I'm 1980s credit card debt. Kevin and I are enamored with Norway for largely the same reasons as you guys and Iceland.

Very cool picture, BTW. Glad I'm not the only one to call her brother a douche bag.

Wow! Congrats on being a soon-to-be published photographer! That's very exciting, and I do love the photo.

I also want to know whether you fall into the Depression-era or the 1980s credit card debit. But, I absolutely hear you - my husband and I seem to be debating the same issue for our upcoming vacation.

Congrats on the publication of your photo! How exciting :)
I've only been to the Reykjavik airport, waiting for a connecting flight, but it seemed pretty nice (albeit cold)...

Woop on the photo - that's awesome. I couldn't think of a better thing to do at a baseball game. ;) Soccer, now that's another story. That's when I curse like sailor and spill more beer than I drink.

Congrats on the photo! I used to love gnomes when I was a little kid, and I used to pretend they were real. My mom made me this framed embroidered gnome thing that hung on my bedroom wall with the saying, "To Gnome Me Is to Love Me." I wonder where that thing went...

That is so cool about the photo! It is a great picture. Congrats!

Super photo! It's making me extra excited for Mets v. Brave (or me vs. socks) in a few weeks. Congratulations!

Too funny about your brother's comment! I wonder if that's what sealed the deal ;) The picture is amazing, congrats!

Oh, also, what is this thing called a tasty cake. Sounds like something worth knitting bigger sizes for (although I am sure you are exaggerating)

Great pic!Shows what your brother knows (hope you've been doing sufficient gloating). You do have the strangest things down there--Krak eggs and tasty cakes… how bizarre, how bizarre.

another knitting book??!? you've gotta spill the beans on the title when it comes out. that's fantastic that they found your photos. i plan to go for the first time this year (which is a shame since stitch 'n pitch orignated in seattle).

good luck with the vacation plans. relaxing around this time of year sounds like a wonderful plan.

Yay for the photo-thing, that's absolutely awesome! Congratulations!!!
Now, Iceland - this is a place where I'd so love to go too one day, after watching countless travel reports on TV and reading a lot about it I feel so strongly for this little island! And though it's really tiny, believe me, there's a big lot going on over there! I have my fingers crossed for you that you'll manage to get to visit it - this'd be so totally amazing!

It's awesome that your picture will be published!! Ha ha ha to the douche bag!!!! Don't gnomes really exist? I think trolls also exist under bridges, logs, etc.

Congrats on publication! That's amazing!

I wish I had a gnome to swap! I love that idea! (The sweet sounds of accordians and such are filling my mind at the thought of Amelie-esq shenanigans)

I envy your Japanese maple you mentioned on my blog. I've loved it for years. Hmmm, ponder and plottings afoot!

Hang in there with Green Gable! It'll be worth it in the end, really.

And congrats on the published photograph! Seeing your work in print AND sticking it to your brother at the same time -- what could be better?

My husband and I also fit the financial management profiles that you describe...I'm not sure which one you are. (I'm the frugal one.) I think that dichotomy can actually works out well -- we keep each other from going to debtors prison/eating cat food while hoarding cash under the mattress.

Congrats on the photo! It's such a fun photo, and I'm glad you can rub it in your brother's face. Laura of Indieknits was my Hot Socks spoilee. She is super nice. I hope you get to go to Iceland.

This is just too weird....I too was at that game, however, had no idea it was "Stitch and Pitch" until my husband saw the PR guy on the video screen interviewing knitters. I was mightily disappointed that I had left my sock in the car across the bridge. Generally, knitting and Penn Pilsner don't mix for me.

Every summer we go to two games in a weekend and that was the weekend.

Very cool about the picture and I hope you get to journey to Iceland! That would be such a cool vacation!
I met an exchange student from Iceland years ago, that is one crazy sounding language- and I love learning new languages... I speak some Norwegian, some Russian, some more French, some Spanish, a little Hebrew and Greek and Swahili, but I don't think I even want to attempt to learn any Icelandic!
At any rate, happy knitting,
ali
